ANNAPOLIS, Md. (FOX 5 DC) -- A 39-year-old woman who drowned in Annapolis on Saturday after her kayak capsized has been identified as a U.S. Secret Service agent.
The Secret Service confirmed on Monday that Special Agent Stephanie Hancock – who had been with the agency since 2007 – died during the tragic accident in Spa Creek.
In a statement sent to FOX 5, the Secret Service said, “Our condolences, as well as our thoughts and prayers, are with the family of Special Agent Hancock.”
Officials don't believe Hancock or a man she was with were wearing life jackets when her kayak overturned around 3:30 p.m. Saturday near Horn Point.
It took rescuers six hours to find her body.
More than 30 people aboard a Schooner Woodwind tourist cruise saw the woman's male companion in distress.
The boat went over to help, but it was too late.
