Great Mills High School locked down after unconfirmed reports of sighting of armed person on campus

GREAT MILLS, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - A Maryland high school where a teen shot two students before being killed in an exchange of gunfire with a school resource officer in March was placed on lockdown Wednesday after unconfirmed sightings of an armed person on campus were reported to police.

Officers say they received the unconfirmed reports around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Great Mills High School. The St. Mary's County Sheriff's office says they searched the school as a precaution. After the school was cleared, officials say classes were dismissed at 12:45 p.m.

Officials have not said the possible armed person is a student at the school. There are reports that the possible armed person could have been connected to a shooting in nearby California, Maryland that was reported Tuesday night. The St. Mary's County Sheriff's office released a photo of 17-year-old of Elijah Miguel Miles who they say was connected to that shooting in California and who they say was reportedly seen near the school.

Police told FOX 5's Paul Wagner that Miles had been captured Wednesday afternoon.

On March 20, 17-year-old Austin Rollins opened fire in a hallway of the school shooting 16-year-old student Jaelynn Willey and 14-year-old Desmond Barnes. He exchanged gunfire with school resource officer Deputy 1st Class Blaine Gaskill and was fatally wounded. Rollins died at the hospital several days later.
