Fairfax County Police mourn unexpected death of K-9 officer Doby

One of the Fairfax County Police Department's K-9 officers died unexpectedly Friday.

K-9 officer Doby was a member of the patrol canine team that responded with his partner to assist an armed robbery call in the Arlington Drive area of Alexandria in the Mount Vernon District on February 22.

During the call, police say Doby collapsed and stopped breathing.

Police say Doby's handler administered CPR and the K-9 was then transported to the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield where he was pronounced dead.

A necropsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Doby was born in Hungary and had just turned two years old, police say. He was a member of the FCPD since March 2018 and actively working cases since August of the same year.
