Fairfax County music teacher arrested for sexual offense with a minor in Hanover County

- A Fairfax County music teacher from Prince William County was arrested in Hanover County for sexual offenses with a minor, according to officials.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said 40-year-old Ryan Pick of Woodbridge was taken into custody by authorities on Aug. 21.

Court records indicate he has been charged with four counts of sexual offense with a minor by computer and one count of propose sex act by communications system with a child. All are felony charges.

Fairfax County Public Schools confirmed to FOX 5 that Pick was a music teacher at Cameron Elementary School in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County. School officials said he was placed on leave without pay last week following his arrest.

Pick was also the part-time music director at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Woodbridge where he was hired back in February 2015, according to church officials. The church said due to its policy that a child must always be accompanied by two adults, Pick never spent any time with children alone while on church property.

The Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Dumfries confirmed Pick worked as its chorus director in the fall semester of 2010 but resigned for personal reasons in December 2010.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office did not state whether they believed Pick potentially had more victims, did not describe the types of crimes allegedly committed or explain why an official release was issued until eight days after Pick’s arrest.

According to court records, Pick was scheduled to be in court Thursday morning.

Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 365-6140.
