DC issued over 1 million speed camera tickets, collected over $100 million in fines, AAA says

- Over one million speed camera tickets that generated over $100 million in total revenue were issued during Washington, D.C.'s 2017 fiscal year according to a report by AAA Mid-Atlantic.

The report says that the District issued 1,079,878 and collected $103,948,666 in fines between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. Those figures set records for D.C. in those categories. AAA says the city is on pace to break that record for fiscal year 2018 which ends on September 30, 2018.

AAA's report says research conducted by the D.C. Policy Center reveals "predominately black neighborhoods" and communities of color in the District "bear the brunt of automated traffic enforcement."

Since 2007, the report says D.C. has issued 6.6 million speed camera citations and have collected nearly $647 million in fines.
