The front of a Silver Spring convenience store was destroyed early Sunday morning in an attempted ATM robbery.

Photos sent to FOX 5 by a viewer show the gaping hole in front of the store, located on New Hampshire Avenue near Hillandale Shopping Center.

Employees say this is not the first time thieves have come to the store and attempted to take the ATM machine.

They say it was a few months ago and the suspects used a small car but it didn't work. It wasn't until Saturday night that they say the same suspects returned, this time with a large truck and pulled the ATM through the wall.

However, when the robbers attempted to get away, the ATM fell into the middle of the street and made away without the machine and cash inside.

Witnesses from the area said police were out, taking photographs of the ATM that was left behind in the middle of the road.

The front of the store has now been boarded up. There have no details or further information about the suspects.
