Missing 65-year-old Prince George's County man with dementia found dead near BWI Airport

BALTIMORE - Police say the body of a 65-year-old man with dementia who was reported missing from Prince George's County last week was found near BWI Airport.

Daniel DeHaven went missing on Jan. 2 after he was with his family at a Costco store on Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville. He was captured on store surveillance at around 11:30 a.m. that day before his disappearance.

DeHaven's family said he suffered from dementia and was non-verbal.

Prince George's County police say DeHaven was found in a wooded area Tuesday night off of Dorsey Road near the airport by a resident who was out for a walk.

Anne Arundel County police said in a statement, "There are no suspicious factors in the death and the Anne Arundel County Police Department will follow up with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death. There is no further information. If there are any updates, they will be posted in the daily brief."

The DeHaven family released at statement on Wednesday saying:

"Yesterday, Tuesday January 9th, at 8pm, the Prince George's County Police Department informed the family that they located our Dad and he had already passed.

We would like to thank everyone for their time, energy, and efforts towards trying to find our father. All that we were able to accomplish was a direct result of the overwhelming love and support from the community, the Prince George's County Police Department, the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department, the media, and the supporting agencies.

At this time we need to process this outcome and appreciate the life of Danny DeHaven.

Thank you."

In addition to police, Prince George's County fire crews along with volunteers had been conducting searches for the Beltsville man.

As the search for 65-year-old was ongoing over the past week, police said Dehaven may have been in Anne Arundel County after being picked up last week by a driver along Route 1 and then being dropped off on Annapolis Road in Gambrills.

"Along with many assets of the Prince Georges' County Police Department and our partner agencies, we know so many of our residents worked tirelessly to find Mr. DeHaven in the last week," Prince George's County police said in a statement. "We sincerely thank you. We thank our media partners for continuously sharing aspects of the search with the community. The Prince George's County Police Department extends our condolences to Mr. DeHaven's family and friends."
