Bald eagle rescued from tracks in Landover euthanized after suffering wing injury
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - A bald eagle that was rescued from train tracks between Addison Road and Morgan Boulevard in Prince George's County on Wednesday has been euthanized after experts determined that a damaged wing could not be repaired.
According to D.C.'s City Wildlife Director Jim Monsma, the eagle's injury was too severe.
He said the eagle was thoroughly examined and his team consulted with a number of other veterinarians and experts before reaching the "unanimous and sad" agreement that euthanasia was the humane option.
On Wednesday, the Blue/Silver line was shut down while a crew worked to extricate the eagle after it suffered "multiple fractures" in its right wing.
