Arrest made in real estate company worker's murder inside model home in Hanover, police say

Tips from the community helped lead to the arrest of a man police said shot and killed a real estate company worker inside a model home in Anne Arundel County on Wednesday.

At a press conference on Friday, officials announced the arrest of 18-year-old Dillon Nicholas Augustyniak in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Steven Bernard Wilson.

Police were called to a model home in the 7500 block of Newmanstown Drive in Hanover where they found Wilson inside suffering from gunshot wounds. The police report states a 911 operator received a call and could only hear heaving breathing and then heard someone in the background ask "Where is the money?" and "Who are you talking to?"

Wilson, who was from Annapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Augustyniak faces multiple charges including first-degree murder and armed robbery. Officials said he was arrested in Baltimore City, but lives on Clark Road in Jessup, which is within walking distance of the model home where Wilson was killed.

Investigators said surveillance video from the home showed Augustyniak carrying a long gun and authorities said they believe Augustyniak attempted to sell the gun after the murder.

"We are incredibly grateful for the efforts of investigators who have tireless worked non-stop to find the person who killed Steven Wilson," his family said in a statement. "The outpouring of support from friends and total strangers has been incredible. Hundreds of folks who knew Steve have offered comfort and solace during this difficult time."

There is no indication that there is a particular threat to the real estate community, officials said at the press conference. While no motive has been established, it appears robbery may have led to the shooting. Authorities said Augustyniak stole Wilson's cellphone and laptop, which were valued at about $2,000.

The family said a GoFundMe page has been started to raise funds for the education of Wilson's two young children.
