Source: Man was found bound, beaten inside apartment during Southeast DC fire

A man is in critical condition after a fire at an apartment building in Southeast D.C.

The fire took place at the Friendship Court Apartments in the 4500 block of 3rd Street at around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Vito Maggiolo says firefighters forced entry into an apartment and rescued the victim from the burning unit. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

A source and witness tell FOX 5's Evan Lambert that the victim was found bound and beaten inside an apartment.

Fire officials say the fire was eventually put out and other residents were safely evacuated from the building. No other injuries were reported.

Arson investigators along with D.C. police have responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
