5 Virginia firefighters being investigated for alleged gang rape of teen girl

Five volunteer firefighters in Virginia are under investigation after they were accused of gang raping a teenage girl, and recording and posting video of it on social media.

This investigation dates back to April and a search warrant affidavit in connection to this case was just unsealed. FOX 5 obtained a copy of the document which contends concerned citizens in the town of Strasburg in Shenandoah County had alerted their mayor of the existence of a video showing the "gang rape of a 17-year-old white female by members of the Strasburg Fire Department."

The affidavit names five firefighters and says the alleged acts happened at three different locations, including the firehouse.

The mother of the 17-year-old girl provided investigators with screenshots of videos that were distributed on Snapchat. According to investigators, those screenshots show the alleged victim "highly intoxicated" and intimidated by all of the suspects, and adds that sex with at least one of the men was not consensual.

Strasburg Mayor Rich Orndorff Jr. decided that it was best if the town recused itself from the investigation. Since April, Virginia State Police have been in charge of the investigation.

"It's very disheartening," said Orndorff. "It does not reflect the town of Strasburg. It does not reflect volunteer agencies, and as I say, it doesn't reflect the entire Strasburg Fire Department. This is very difficult on a close-knit community. I feel that we will persevere and Strasburg will be Strasburg and we will get through this."

FOX 5 attempted to speak with a representative with the Strasburg Fire Department. The fire chief said the department would make a statement soon regarding the allegations.

Since April, all five firefighters being investigated have remained on the job and still on duty. As of Wednesday, there have been no charges been filed in the case.
