22 new families formed on 32nd annual D.C. Adoption Day

- In the District, new families were celebrated at the 32nd annual Adoption Day event, as children and their new parents filled the courthouse on Nov. 14.

The ceremony celebrates the joys of adoption and encourages residents to consider adopting or fostering a child. Thirty-one children -- many of them siblings, were officially adopted into 22 new families.

Mayor Muriel Bowser, who has been open about her recent adoption of a baby girl, Miranda, served as the guest speaker of the event.

"We're very proud of our Child and Family Services for helping bring children, deserving children and families together. We encourage people to think about if they have space in their home for one of these lovely children," said Mayor Bowser.

D.C. officials say there are more than 800 children in D.C. foster care system who are seeking permanent, loving homes.
