Inside the Embassy of Ghana with FOX 5

The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana is located in the Cleveland Park area of Northwest D.C. After one step into the courtyard visitors are greeted with the country's coat of arms which bears the national motto: "Freedom and Justice."

Artifacts from the West African nation and images of its past leaders can be found inside along with beautiful works of silk threat art and wood carvings. Also on display are examples of clothing from the country's different ethnic groups. Baffour Adjei Bawuah, Ghana's ambassador to United States of America, says the country's economy is growing fast and the nation is continuing to move ahead.

Bawuah also said that 2019 marks 400 years since the first Africans were brought to America and forced into slavery. Many of the men, women and children taken from their homes and force into slavery were taken from the Ghanaian coast. This year the country of Ghana is hosting "The Year of Return" in an effort to recognize the contributions of African Americans and to bring Americans and Ghanaians closer together.
