St. Mary’s County standoff following double shooting over
LEONARDTOWN, Md. - St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputies were locked in a standoff with a suspect after a double shooting in Leonardtown on Tuesday.
The standoff ended around 4:30 p.m. after the suspect reportedly shot himself.
The sheriff's office says the suspect was airlifted to a local hospital.

The incidient erupted around 1:15 p.m. when police responded to a double shooting on Newtowne Neck Road in Leonardtown.
When they arrived, they found two victims - a 72-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman - suffering from gunshot wounds.

Law enforcement identified the suspect as a 48-year-old man from Callaway. They have not released his name.
Deputies chased the suspect until he stoppe his vehicle in the area of Route 234 and Route 236 in Mechanicsville.
When the suspect refused to leave his vehicle, deputies shut down the area.
