Man on bike assaulted by passing bicyclist on Loudoun County trail, police say

Police are investigating after a man riding a bicycle was allegedly assaulted by a passing bicyclist on a trail in Northern Virginia.The alleged incident occurred at about 2:15 p.m. on Sunday along the Washington and Old Dominion Trail in Loudoun County.

Investigators said a man on a bike was attempting to pass two bicyclists near a part of the trail near Ashburn Village Boulevard. The man told police that he was riding on the center lanes when a bicyclist traveling in the opposite direction reached out his arm and intentionally hit him on his helmet.

The victim was hospitalized and remains in stable condition, officials said.

Police said the suspect rode off in the opposite direction heading east towards Ashburn Village Boulevard.

Detectives described the suspect as a man standing approximately 6-feet-tall and wearing a white to light green Castelli jersey, helmet and sunglasses. His bike was described as being similar to a time trial bike or a triathlon bike. Also, police said the bike was equipped with aero bars and the rider wore an aero helmet. His face was covered with a sunshade, according to officials.
