Investigators said the vehicle left the roadway, hit an embankment and overturned. The vehicle also hit a nearby apartment complex sign as it left the roadway, spreading debris into the street.

Officials confirmed three adults were killed and a fourth adult was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators say they don't believe the car was speeding, but no one inside was buckled.

"The tragedy this morning could have been mitigated if the occupants of the vehicle would have been wearing seatbelts," said Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski.
