Snow showers moved through the area quickly Tuesday morning making for a slippery commute and causing several area school districts to delay their opening times.

FOX 5's Mike Thomas tracked the snow-bursts that started early in the morning and moved out of our area around 7 a.m. The bursts lasted for about 20 minutes at a time and left some snow accumulation on grassy areas. Marginal temperatures kept most of the main roadways free of snow.

Winter Weather Advisories were put into place in the far western parts of Maryland and near the mountains of West Virginia. No watches or warnings were issued locally for the metro area.

Clear skies and cold temperatures will stick around for most of the day. Strong wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour are possible this afternoon.

Two fatal crashes were reported Tuesday. Police in Howard County say a driver died after two vehicles collided around 6 a.m. near Guilford Road and Oakland Mills Road in the Columbia area. Earlier in the morning in Prince George's County, a person was killed in a crash near Richie Marlboro Road in Upper Marlboro.

Some major school districts in the area, like Montgomery, Howard and Spotsylvania County Public Schools, delayed their opening times Tuesday morning.
