Weekend blast of snow and rain expected

WASHINGTON - We hate to say it, but it is likely we could see some snow this weekend. A storm system that will move through our area has the potential to give us one last winter blast.

This is what the weekend forecast looks like so far:

A few hours of sunshine in the morning on Saturday gives way to rain in the afternoon. Prepare for cold temperatures as we won't get out of the 40s at all.

Expect a rain to mix to snow transition as we get into Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

A rain/snow mix will be with us for most of the day on Sunday in the District. Further to the north and northwest -- all snow is possible. Cold temperatures with highs just above 40 degrees should be expected. The storm is expected to wrap up Sunday evening.

In the District, we could see a dusting while areas north and west may see a dusting to 2 inches. Higher elevation areas may see 2 to 4 inches of the white stuff.

Like always, the rain-snow line will hover somewhere along the I-95 corridor. We'll keep a close watch on it to see if it gives us real snow or a wet mess.

It's hard to believe there is snow on the way with Sunday being the first day of spring! No matter how much we get though, melting should occur quickly, so we may not need the shovels for this one...the last one...hopefully!
