Flash flooding causes several water rescues in Montgomery County

- Thunderstorms passed through the D.C. region Monday evening bringing heavy downpour and large hail.

Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued throughout the night warning of possible 60 mile per hour wind gusts and quarter-sized hail.

There were several reported downed trees in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The storms also caused flash flooding in Montgomery County in Maryland after fire and rescue personnel made several water rescues where vehicles were stranded on the roadway due to high water. A Flash Flood Warning was in effect until 3:30 a.m. in Montgomery County.

WEATHER UPDATES:

10:11 p.m.

D.C. police report the 1400 block of Longfellow Street in Northwest D.C. is closed for a downed tree. The right southbound lane in the 5400 block of N Capitol Street in Northwest D.C is also closed for a fallen tree.

9:39 p.m.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue is reporting water rescues at several locations after vehicles were caught in high water:

- Bradley Boulevard and Seven Locks Road  in Bethesda
- Little Falls Parkway near River Road in Bethesda
- Goldsboro Road and Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda
- Stable Lane in Potomac
- Veirs Mill Road and Newport Mill Road in Silver Spring

9:34 p.m.

D.C Fire and EMS says a tree is down on 21st and F Streets in Northwest D.C. Another large tree has fallen on Loughboro Road and Chain Bridge Road. No reported have been reported in either incident.

9:29 p.m.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Montgomery County until 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after emergency officials in the county reported water rescues happening for stalled vehicles in flooded water.

9:27 p.m.

D.C. Fire and EMS report a large tree has fallen on several cars in the 5500 block of 13th Street in Northwest D.C. No injuries were reported.

9:06 p.m.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue say they are working on a water rescue after a car was stranded in high water in the 11800 block of Parklawn Drive near Boiling Brook Parkway in North Bethesda, Md. Spokesperson Pete Piringer also tweeted that several vehicles were abandoned in high water on Randolph Road near Boiling Brook Parkway and Parklawn Drive.

9 p.m.

D.C. police say there is a downed tree in the 5200 block of Loughboro Road in Northwest D.C. near Sibley Hospital.

8:52 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for the District of Columbia, Prince George's County, Montgomery County, Fairfax County, Arlington County and the city of Falls Church until 9:30 p.m. A severe thunderstorm was located over McLean moving east at 25 miles per hour.

8:02 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:30 p.m. for Prince George's and Calvert Counties in Maryland. A severe thunderstorm was located near Prince Frederick moving east at 30 miles per hour, according to the weather service.

7:26 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for the District of Columbia, northwestern Prince George's County, southeastern Montgomery County, Fairfax County, Arlington County, city of Falls Church and city of Fairfax until 8:15 p.m.

Charles County, southeastern Prince George's County, St. Mary's County, Howard County, eastern Montgomery County and Calvert County are all under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8 p.m.

6:59 p.m.

A Tornado Warning was issued for Charles County in Maryland until 7:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near La Plata. Residents are advised to take shelter now, possibly in a basement or room at the lowest level of the building, to avoid any possible flying debris or damaged caused by the storm.
