Redskins TE Jordan Reed diagnosed with concussion
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden said on Thursday that tight end Jordan Reed has been diagnosed with a concussion
Reed missed his second straight practice on Thursday.
This marks the sixth diagnosed concussion in Reed's professional and college career.
Gruden said Reed must be cleared from the NFL's concussion protocol before returning to practice or play in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"We let the independent doctor and our doctors decide on how severe (the concussions) are. That's all I can say," Gruden said.
"He's a very important part of our offense, but we also want him to get better from a personal standpoint."
Cornerback Josh Norman had a large wrap on his right wrist, which he aggravated against the Ravens. He anticipates wearing some version of it in Week 6.
Reed leads the Redskins in receptions (33), yards (316) and is tied for the team lead with two touchdown catches. He signed a five-year, $46.75 million contract in May after setting several career highs in 2015.
Norman acknowledged he'll likely play with pain Sunday, but that he'll indeed play even though more rest might be the ideal plan.
"Just have to fight through it and be tough, I guess," he said.
Washington, one game behind first-place Dallas in the NFC East, would move past Philadelphia in the division with a win.
"I want to do all I can and be ready for this week," Norman said. "This is a big week for us. It really is."
NOTES: Linebacker Su'a Cravens (concussion) and cornerback Bashaud Breeland (ankle) were limited participants in practice for a second straight day. First-round pick Josh Doctson (Achilles) did not practice.
