Snow is impacting areas north and west of the D.C. metro area as a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the region.

Snow started falling in northern and western Maryland Tuesday afternoon and the clipper system was expected to move into the D.C. metro region and areas along the Interstate 95 corridor late Tuesday night and continue into the overnight hours.

The timing of the storm will determine how big of an impact it has on D.C. and the surrounding suburbs.

The storm should wrap up mid-morning on Wednesday in the D.C. area. As usual, the biggest factors that will determine if the snow affects the Wednesday morning commute are what time it clears out of the region and how much snow it leaves behind.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the majority of the D.C. region from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A coating to one inch is possible in the D.C. area by Wednesday morning. Up to three inches can be expected near the Maryland-Pennsylvania border and in parts of Central Virginia. Parts of Western Maryland could see up to six inches of snowfall.

Expect cold temperatures to stick around after the snow finishes falling with highs in the 30s and 40s for the rest of the week. A dry weekend warm-up with highs near 60 is expected.
