Ways to get around DC on New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve has finally arrived, and you know the rules: If you drink - don't drive!

Here are some alternatives to driving that you can use to get around town safely while out celebrating.

METRORAIL & METROBUS:

Metro trains will remain open three hours later than normal, but the last train times vary by station. On Friday, January 1 (New Year's Day) Metrorail & Metrobus operate on Sunday schedule. More info here: http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/metro_service_status/advisories.cfm?AID=5329

You can even ride the rails and bus lines for FREE, courtesy Miller Lite! The company will pay for rides starting at midnight and running until 3 a.m. Get more info here: http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/news/PressReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=6017

SOBER RIDE:

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program's Sober Ride will be providing a free ride home (up to a $30 fare) from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. You can contact SoberRide at 1-800-200-TAXI and visit online: http://www.wrap.org/soberride/

RIDE-SHARING:

If you're new to Uber, you'll receive a $20 credit. Facebook teamed up with Uber this year to make it easy to request rides through the Facebook Messenger app. More info here: https://www.uber.com/

Lyft will also be running through the night. Request a ride here: https://www.lyft.com/
