Ways to get around DC on New Year's Eve

- New Year’s Eve has finally arrived, and you know the rules: If you drink – don’t drive!

Here are some alternatives to driving that you can use to get around town safely while out celebrating.

Metro trains will remain open three hours later than normal, but the last train times vary by station. On Friday, January 1 (New Year's Day) Metrorail & Metrobus operate on Sunday schedule. More info here: http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/metro_service_status/advisories.cfm?AID=5329

You can even ride the rails and bus lines for FREE, courtesy Miller Lite! The company will pay for rides starting at midnight and running until 3 a.m. Get more info here: http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/news/PressReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=6017

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program’s Sober Ride will be providing a free ride home (up to a $30 fare) from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. You can contact SoberRide at 1-800-200-TAXI and visit online: http://www.wrap.org/soberride/

If you’re new to Uber, you’ll receive a $20 credit. Facebook teamed up with Uber this year to make it easy to request rides through the Facebook Messenger app. More info here: https://www.uber.com/

Lyft will also be running through the night. Request a ride here: https://www.lyft.com/
