Washington Monument reopens after weekend power problems

The Washington Monument re-opened Monday morning after power issues caused problems for workers and visitors over the weekend.

On Saturday, several workers were stuck inside of the Monument's elevator and several visitors were trapped inside after power to the structure was lost.

The power issues caused the Monument to close early on Saturday and to remain closed all day on Sunday.

Officials say a tripped breaker caused by a voltage drop of incoming power is to blame.

In July, the Washington Monument was closed for several days while repairs to the elevator were made.
