Walt Disney Company pledges $5 million to help rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral

ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - The rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral is getting some help from Disney.

On Wednesday, The Walt Disney Company announced it would be pledging $5 million to aid in the rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris after the historic landmark went up in flames this week.

"Notre-Dame is a beacon of hope and beauty that has defined the heart of Paris and the soul of France for centuries, inspiring awe and reverence for its art and architecture and for its enduring place in human history," said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company.

"The Walt Disney Company stands with our friends and neighbors in the community, offering our heartfelt support as well as a $5 million donation for the restoration of this irreplaceable masterpiece."

Disney joins the fundraising efforts of donors who have been pledging hundreds of millions of dollars to help pay for the Cathedral's reconstruction.

Fire investigators continue to assess the damage to the Cathedral, which was built over 850 years ago. President Emmanual Macron said that the landmark could be rebuilt in five years. No cost estimates have been released.

Paris is home to one of Disney's popular theme parks, Disneyland Paris. The cathedral is also the setting for Disney's animated film "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" made in 1996.
