VIDEO: Suspect brutally punches out elderly victim in SE DC robbery

D.C. police are searching for a suspect who brutally assaulted and robbed an elderly man in Southeast D.C. earlier this month. The incident was caught by a nearby surveillance camera.

The violent robbery occurred in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue on May 17 at around 5:44 p.m.

In the surveillance video released by D.C. police, a person wearing what appears to be a red shirt walks up and begins to engage in conversation with the 63-year-old man with several other people nearby.

About 15 seconds later, the suspect throws a punch and hits the victim in the face and appears to knock the person out cold.

The suspect proceeds to pick up items from the ground nearby the victim before leaving the area. The police report of the incident says the suspect robbed the victim of $1.

The victim suffered a severe laceration, a bruise and other apparent minor injuries. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction for the person in this robbery.
