Veterans are commemorating the 73rd anniversary of D-Day at the National World War II Memorial.

Wreaths were placed at the Atlantic Arch of the Memorial in memory of the 9,000 Allied soldiers killed or wounded during the invasion.

On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline in Normandy, France during a pivotal battle against Nazi Germany forces.
