Vandals burn American flags throughout Va. neighborhood

At least three American flags have been burned throughout a Burke, Va. neighborhood, according to residents.

Some residents woke up on Thursday and Friday mornings only to find their American flags scorched. One woman told FOX 5 that she did not want to speak on camera because she was too nervous about the whole incident and what could have happened. She thought perhaps her home could have been burned down due to how close the flag and fire were to her home.

Another resident who says his flag was burned down tells us that he believes it was likely the kids in the neighborhood. He woke up on Thursday morning and simply thought that his flag had blown away. He soon realized his flag had been destroyed by fire.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department couldn't confirm whether or not the incidents were connected in anyway but they are investigating the possibility. They will determine if these incidents will be considered arson. The department suggests keeping the area in front of your home and door well-lit to help prevent incidents like this from happening.
