ROCKVILLE, Md. - A vandalized confederate statue in Rockville has been encased in a wooden box to prevent further damage.

The box surrounds the bottom half of the statue.

Police are still searching for the criminals who spray-painted the phrase "Black Lives Matter" on the base of the statue.

Officials would like to move the 102-year-old statue out of downtown Rockville.

That move will be considered next month by leaders of Rockville's historic commission.
