Abduction suspect accused of triggering Virginia Ashanti Alert turns himself in, police say

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (FOX 5 DC) -- A man who Virginia State Police believe abducted an 18-year-old in Virginia's Eastern Shore area has turned himself in to authorities.

Vermelle Tontrese Moore, 18, was found in Maryland on Wednesday, hours after her disappearance triggered an Ashanti Alert.

According to police, Moore was riding in a car in Greenbackville, Va. when 20-year-old Jerry Satchell forced her out of the vehicle she was riding in and into a dark green 1993 Ford F-150.

They say he intentionally backed into another vehicle before fleeing the scene.Police say the truck he'd been driving was found Wednesday afternoon in Accomack County, Va.

On Thursday, Satchell, who police say was wanted for one felony count of abduction, one felony count of destruction of property and one felony count of assault, turned himself in and is now in police custody.
