Photos of injured soldier, dog go viral

A series of photos posted to Facebook by the 89th Military Police Brigade have gone viral.

The first photo was posted on December 9, and shows Rocky, a military police dog, laying in a hospital bed with a Purple Heart medal pinned to his muzzle.

The caption reads: "One of our Military Working Dogs, Rocky, and his handler were injured this week during operations in Afghanistan. Rocky and his handler are staying in the same room right now as they are receiving treatment for their injuries. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they recover during the holiday season."

It has been shared over 100,000 times.

A second photo, posted on December 11, shows Rocky with his handler, identified as SPC Brown.

The caption says both are doing well after being treated for injuries they suffered from an IED blast earlier in the week while searching a structure in support of ongoing operations in Afghanistan.

SPC Brown arrived at Walter Reed, where he was met by his family, on December 11 and Rocky is expected to return to Fort Hood in the coming weeks.

The second photo was shared over 1,000 times.
