Thinking of enrolling in TSA's PreCheck program? You might want to reconsider

WASHINGTON - If pictures of extremely long security checkpoint lines at Dulles, Reagan and BWI airports have you a little nervous about an upcoming flight, you might of considered what many others are doing and enrolled in TSA's PreCheck program. The problem with that is, the number of people who are trying to get authorized for the expedited screening program has doubled from 8,000 to 16,000 a week.

FOX 5's Matt Ackland will be traveling quite a bit this summer, and is hoping to be able to avoid some of the long lines, so he took it on himself to see exactly how long it would take to enroll into the PreCheck program.

His first stop was an H&R Block in downtown D.C.. This is a location where you can start the TSA PreCheck process to get authorized. On its website, the company claimed to allow walk-ins, but Ackland was unable to get PreCheck authorization because he was told he needed an appointment.

His next stop was Reagan National Airport, another location where you can get PreChecks done. He walked into the TSA PreCheck office to ask if he could get on the waiting list. Their response was, "Sure that's fine, but it's going to be over an hour and a half wait." Ackland then asked if he could make an appointment and they told him the next appointment would be two to three weeks away.

If you are interested in enrolling in TSA's PreCheck program, make sure you either make an appointment ASAP or plan on waiting in a lengthy line.
