'Terrible Traffic Tuesday' indicates beginning of heavier congestion along area roads

WASHINGTON - As if commuting in D.C. wasn't bad enough - the end of the holiday weekend brings us to 'Terrible Traffic Tuesday.' Beginning the Tuesday after Labor Day - D.C. area highways and transit lines traditionally experience heavier than usual congestion as students and workers get back to their regular schedules.

The commute is typically at its worst during the morning and evening rush hours and regularly causes backups along metro areas of Interstate 95, 495 66 and 270.

Drivers and transit commuters should expect trains and buses to be extra crowded and wait times to be longer along roads and interstates.

This year, rail commuters can expect even heavier delays as Metro's SafeTrack maintenance program continues.
