Teens charged as adults in brutal beating of Maryland man; police say more arrests expected

Baltimore County Police say another arrest has been made in connection with the brutal attack of a Maryland man who was trying to break up a fight in front of his own house.

61-year-old Richard Fletcher was home on April 22 when a large fight broke out in the 500 block of 45th Street in Dundalk. Police say Fletcher saw two teen girls, surrounded by a larger group of teens, fighting on his vehicle. When he approached the group to ask them to move away from his truck, he was attacked. Witnesses say they believe anywhere from between 40 to 50 people may have been involved in the attack.

A GoFundMe page set up to help Fletcher with medical expenses stemming from the assault said that he suffered a broken nose, broken eye sockets, broken ribs, and bleeding on the brain.

Authorities said on Tuesday that a 17-year-old male was arrested and will be charged as an adult in the case.

On April 29, police announced the arrest of 17-year-old Antoine Willie Lawson of the 5600 block of Clearspring Road. Police said Lawson is charged as an adult with first and second degree assault and is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Fletcher's neighbor, Georgia Bartrum, appeared on Fox and Friends Tuesday and said that Fletcher faces a long recovery. Medical bills for Fletcher could reach $400,000.

"He went out basically to tell them to please get off his truck, and when he did, he was then attacked, brutally attacked," Bartrum said.

Police say more arrests are expected.
