Ted Cruz campaigns in Maryland

The critical New York primaries are on Tuesday, but Maryland's upcoming primary race is also on the minds of presidential candidates. Republican candidate Ted Cruz made a campaign stop in Towson Monday afternoon at American Legion Post 22 looking ahead to next week's primary.

Before Cruz to the crowd, he had Carly Fiorina introduce him - someone he has taken on the trail quite a bit.

"And the people that I know who voted for Trump, I think they think that he's going to challenge this system," Fiorina said. "Guess what folks? He is the system. And the truth is that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are two sides of the same coin."

When Cruz spoke, he mentioned the many endorsements he has received during this race. But one endorsement he hasn't received is from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who has decided not to endorse any candidates in this race.

According to RealClearPolitics polling averages, Cruz is polling third in Maryland, with Trump in the lead followed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

A theme in Cruz's remarks on this day was one of uniting the party.

"If we unite, we will win this primary," said Cruz. "If we unite, we will win the general, we will beat Hillary Clinton and we will turn this country around."

He also said, "And yet I'm here today with a word of hope and encouragement all across Maryland and all across this country. People are waking up and help is on the way."

Maryland's primary will be held on April 26. Early voting has already started and will run until Thursday.
