Stalled train delays debut of new DC Metro rail car

A stalled train briefly delayed the debut of a new Metro rail car series Monday.

Metro's new 7000 series trains were supposed to make their first run on the Green Line early Monday morning, however, the plan hit a snag when an older model car stalled on the tracks at the Greenbelt Station.

Passengers on the older model train exited and waited for another car on the other side of the platform.

The new 7000 series cars were then put into placed. They have several upgrades and are equipped with a digital video surveillance system and a high-tech pa system.

The goal is to eventually phase out the 1000 and 4000 series cars.
