Police: Stabbing victim tried to drive to hospital

(AP) -- A stabbing victim tried to drive himself to a Washington university's hospital, but only got as far as the edge of campus.

Metropolitan police said in a report that an unknown female confronted a man with a knife outside a grocery store in southeast Washington on Wednesday night and began slashing the tires on his vehicle. As she slashed the tires, police say she stabbed the man in the forearm.

The man tried to drive to Howard University Hospital, about 7 miles away in northwest Washington, but only made it to 4th and W streets, a few blocks away. From there, he walked a few blocks to Georgia Avenue and was taken by ambulance a short distance to the hospital. Police say he was treated and released.
