Snakes seized from Maryland pet shop and home

Three venomous snakes and a dozen other snakes were seized by Maryland Natural Resources Police officers during a raid of an Allegany County pet shop and home.

Acting on a tip, officers removed a West African spitting cobra, a monocled cobra and a timber rattlesnake from a home in Cresaptown.

A dozen corn snakes were found at Daddieos Pets in Cumberland.

It is illegal to possess cobras and rattlesnakes in Maryland and the pet shop was selling the corn snakes without a permit and it had no certificates of origin for them, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police.

The pet shop and the home are owned by 47-year-old John Paul Stosick III.
