Silver Spring home damaged by tree struck by lightning

Montgomery County fire officials say a tree struck by lightning damaged a home in Silver Spring Monday afternoon.

Pete Piringer of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue tweeted the lightning strike happened near a one-story home in the 8900 block of 1st Avenue.

Piringer says after the tree hit the home, there was an odor of smoke coming from inside the house.

FOX 5's Alexandra Limon says arcing power lines caused a small fire in the mudroom of the home.
