Prince George's police officer dies after crashing cruiser

LANHAM, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say an officer who died after crashing his cruiser in Lanham had a female passenger in the car with him.

Police say 26-year-old Officer Brennan Rabain lost control of his car while he was trying to make a traffic stop around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The car ran off the road and crashed into a wooden fence.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation, and police are looking into the possibility that it was weather-related. Police say there was black ice on the road.

Police Chief Mark Magaw says Rabain had been with the department for less than 2 years and "was a fine officer." Rabain was the father of a 3-year-old.

A GoFundMe page has been created for his daughter
