Police: Suspect robbed, bound woman during robbery at Arlington apartment

Police say they are searching for a man who bound and robbed a woman at her apartment in Arlington last Thursday.

Arlington County police say the robbery happened at around 2:17 p.m. in the 100 block of North George Mason Drive.

According to police, the masked suspect was waiting for his victim who was leaving her apartment.

The man forced her back into the apartment where he bound her hands. The suspect then stole her cash and her only form of communication -- her cellphone.

She then ran out the courtyard at the apartment complex and to the street where she hailed a cab to take her to a friend's house.

"We don't know at this time if she was just completely scared and just wanted to flee the scene as fast as possible," said Dustin Sternbeck, spokesperson for the Arlington County Police Department. "She did not ask the cab driver for his cell phone to potentially call police."

It was roughly 15 minutes before police were called, and since then, their search for the masked thief has turned up empty.

Police have said this appears to have been an isolated incident and don't believe suspect and victim know each other.
