Police: Street race leaves one driver dead; woman facing homicide charges

Police have charged a woman in the death of a man who was killed while the two were allegedly racing their vehicles along a Calvert County roadway.

The incident happened early Thursday morning on Maryland Route 4 and Rousby Hall Road in Lusby.

Police say 32-year-old Lindsay Leanne Canter and 32-year-old Ronald Joseph Ball were racing each other on northbound Route 4 when Canter struck the rear of Ball's car. Ball's vehicle rolled off of the roadway and came to rest on its roof.

Police say Canter fled the scene. Ball was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Investigators found Cantera a short distance away from the crash scene. She was arrested and charged with DUI homicide by motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash and numerous other DUI related charges.
