CLINTON, Md. - Authorities say a suspect was shot and killed by police at a fast-food restaurant in Prince Georges County.
The shooting was reported at a Checkers restaurant in the 8800 block of Woodyard Road in Clinton at about 3:40 a.m. on Monday.
Police said they responded to an alarm call and found the window of the drive-thru broken. Officers said they spotted a man, later identified as 24-year-old Anthony Trice Jr. of Clinton, inside the restaurant near the safe. Authorities said they set up a perimeter and called for Trice to surrender but he exited the building with a weapon in his hand. Officers said they shot Trice in the leg. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
No other officers were injured during the shooting. Police said they recovered a vehicle they believed Trice used in the incident. Police have identified the officer who discharged his weapon as Corporal Scott Weisbrod. He has been with the department for 7 years and 9 months
Prince Georges County Police Chief Stawinski said that there was a break-in at a nearby Popeyes restaurant Sunday night and that another fast-food restaurant was broken into last week. Stawinski said officers are investigating to see if the incidents are connected.
Police released a picture of the weapon they say Trice was armed with. Officials said the incident was captured on an officer's dash camera.
