Police ID suspect in fatal stabbing outside Metro station

WALKER MILL, Md. (AP) -- Authorities have identified a suspect arrested after a fatal stabbing outside a Metrorail station in a Maryland suburb of the nation's capital.

Metro Transit Police say 36-year-old Ali Anthony Jovan of Fairfax, Virginia, was taken into custody and faces first-and second-degree murder in Wednesday night's stabbing in Prince George's County.

Police say Jovan is accused of stabbing 35-year-old Vontrel Laarius McDaniel with a folding knife at a bus bay outside the Addison Road station. McDaniel was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the two men had been arguing and that officers chased Jovan and arrested him as he tried to run from the area.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said police believe the suspect and the victim knew each other.

It is unclear if Jovan has an attorney.
