Police: Driver arrested after hit-and-run on Capital Beltway

(AP) -- State police say a driver ran away from the scene after a fatal crash on the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County.

Police said in a news release that officers found the man, on foot, about two hours after the crash, which occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Monday near the Little River Turnpike exit in Annandale.

Police say the man was driving a car that rear-ended another car, sending it into the adjacent express lanes, where it hit a barrier. There were five people in the car that was hit, and a female passenger died.

Charges are pending against the alleged hit-and-run driver.
