WASHINGTON - Police say a man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Southeast D.C. Friday while crossing the street.
The crash happened near Wheeler Road and Alabama Avenue around 3 a.m.
FOX 5's Annie Yu reports that an SUV struck the pedestrian and then slammed into a tree. Power lines and wires were downed as a result of the crash. Police tell Yu that the driver was taken into police custody.
Alabama Avenue was closed for several hours along the 800 and 900 blocks. The intersection of Wheeler Road was also closed to traffic for some time.
Police are still continuing to investigate the accident.
