Early voting will take place at DC library despite overnight robbery of armed security guard

Early voting will take place as scheduled at a library in northeast D.C. despite the robbery of an armed security guard that was assigned to the location overnight.

The incident happened Thursday at around 9:30 p.m. at the Dorothy I Height - Benning Library on Benning Road. An armed man approached the security guard from behind and took his radio and service weapon. The robbery occurred about 30 minutes after the library had closed.

Police are still searching for the suspect at this time. No description of the armed man has been given by investigators and no injuries were reported.

The Dorothy I Height - Benning Library is still scheduled for use as an early voting location and will open as planned to voters on Friday at 8:30 a.m. It will be open each day from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. until November 4th.
