ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A man was arrested after injuring an Alexandria police officer during a confrontation that led to her firing her gun Wednesday morning, according to officials.
The Alexandria Police Department said they responded to a call for a disorderly man attempting to smash car windows with a heavy object near King and Saint Asaph streets in the downtown area at about 6:45 a.m.
Authorities said when the first officer arrived, the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Clyde Eugene Reynolds, attacked her, striking her in the head.
The officer fired her gun once during the incident and the bullet hit a nearby car, according to officials.
Reynolds was taken into custody without injury and the officer was rushed to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Reynolds has been charged with malicious wounding of a police officer and is being held without bond.
