No arrests after allegations made against Prince George's Co. school aide molesting children on bus

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. - There have still been no arrests after allegations a Prince George's County school aide molested special needs children on the bus.

Parents whose children may have been assaulted say they're now finding out the abuse could go back all the way to November.

The children involved are some of the most vulnerable at James Ryder Randall Elementary in Clinton: four and five-year-olds with special needs who struggle to communicate. So far, there are four possible victims.

Questions remain about the timeline of events. The investigation started after an alleged assault in late May that was reported to Child Protective Services. Prince George's Police say they didn't find out until almost a month later, and the Prince George's County superintendent says he didn't learn of the investigation until August.

A PGPD spokesman couldn't say exactly when the district was notified of the criminal investigation, but it should have been right away after police launched the case in June.

Parents say investigators had them identify their kids using still images from bus surveillance footage, but that they weren't able to actually watch any of that video to see what was captured on camera.

"It certainly is odd if you have a video, you know who the person is, you've identified them, it is odd that this much time has passed and, with a case this serious, no one knows who this person is and there have been no arrests," said Scott Lucas, an attorney with the Cochran Law Firm, who's representing one of the alleged victim's family. "It's trying for these families. They want to hear what's going on, they want some answers and they want the person responsible to be held accounted for. And you're not sure that's happening."

The aide in question has not been identified, but has been placed on leave along with another employee.
