NFL alumni, members of Congress ready for Congressional Football Game

WASHINGTON - Members of Congress, NFL alumni, and U.S. Capitol Police officers will hit the football field for charity tonight in the eighth Congressional Football Game.

The game is set to be held at Hotchkiss Field at Gallaudet University and comes just four months since the shooting at a congressional baseball practice in northern Virginia left Majority Whip Steve Scalise clinging to life.

The charity game was inspired by the loss of two U.S. Capitol Police officers who died in the line of duty in 1998 and benefits the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund, Our Military Kids, and A Advantage 4 Kids.

Scalise will attend the game and will honor Special Agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey who are credited with helping to save his life.

Former NFL stars Ken Harvey and John Booty are coaching the teams. "They're ready, we're excited. It's good to see these congress members all fired up and ready to play," Harvey said.

The game between The Mean Machine, made up of members of Congress, and The Guards, made up of members of the U.S. Capitol Police will begin at 7 p.m. Former Washington Redskins receivers Gary Clark and Santana Moss will join in the fun as will NFL great, Herschel Walker.
