New suspect images released after 69-year-old man punched in face at Metro station

On Monday, Metro released new images of a suspect caught on security cameras attacking a 69-year-old man at the Eastern Market Metro station.

The agency is taking this very seriously and put the video out within a few hours after the assault happened. The search continues on Monday.

They are particularly disturbed because of the age of the victim.

"It apparently started with him being shoved by the suspect getting off of a train here at Eastern Market," said Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel. "The two had words with each other on the platform, and then at the top of the escalator, the suspect was waiting for the victim, he spits in his face and then punches him three times."

It happened at around 1 p.m. Friday. Fortunately, the escalator wasn't working as the elderly man was knocked down.

The victim was taken to the hospital. He is expected to be okay, but was treated for facial injuries.

The suspect took off after the attack, but authorities are hoping someone recognizes him.

"It's disturbing," said Stessel. "Part of the reason we have invested in all of these cameras on the system is to protect our passengers. It's days like this where we're hopeful that they come in handy."

Anyone who is able to identify him asked to call Metro Transit Police detectives at 202-962-2121 and use reference case number #2015-21061. Tips also can be sent by text message to "mymtpd" (696873).
